Chinese Herbal Medicine As A Supplement To Western Treatments
For the past few years, the use of herbs as medication for different illnesses has being witness by many. As of today, chinese herbal medicine still remains as a supplement to many conventional treatments. For those with have no access to western medicines, chinese herbal medicine may be the only treatment they will receive.
Due to the effectiveness of certain ancient chinese herbal medicine, there have being numerous studies in many countries to test it’s healing abilities. According to a study from the University of Texas, chinese herbal medicine was proven to be effective in providing rheumatoid arthritis relief.
Many will disagree with the use of chinese medicine due to the safety of many products used in Chinese herbal medicine. There are cases of serious side effects and symptoms when herbs are mixed with conventional medicine. For example, Echinacea should not be taken with anabolic steroids and Feverfew should not be used with non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. St. John’s Wort should not be taken with medicines such as Prozac and Paxil. Warfarin should not be taken with herbs too.
All the tests that were carried out have shown us that the herbs used in chinese herbal medicine may cause one to have side effects if used with conventional synthetic drugs. But if they are used alone, they are unlikely to cause any danger to the user. More studies are being carried out to prove their safety and usefulness.
